On 8th May 2025, the Net Zero: Retrofit in Practice event brought together an inspiring mix of practitioners, policymakers, and innovators to share how they’re making tangible progress toward net zero goals. Held at the Voco Spires Hotel in Oxford, the full-day conference was packed with practical insights and proven strategies – and we were proud to see Energy Saver App playing a central role in the conversation.

The event was designed around one simple but powerful message: getting to Net Zero isn’t about far-off targets – it’s about taking action now. The sessions focused on real-world solutions already making a difference, and attendees came to learn what works and how to get started.

Energy Saver App in the Spotlight

Energy Saver App was showcased as a key example of practical innovation already delivering results. As part of Oxfordshire County Council’s wider retrofit efforts, Energy Saver App is helping residents save energy – and money – through better engagement, education, and access to smart technologies.

In the afternoon session, Dale Hoyland from Oxfordshire County Council presented the collaborative work happening across the county, including how Energy Saver App is supporting households to understand their energy use, take advantage of new retrofit measures, and track their progress over time. The presentation formed part of a broader discussion on community-driven, tech-enabled approaches to retrofit – sparking interest and questions from across the room.

A Day of Actionable Insight

From insights into local energy markets to government-backed funding models and grassroots-led engagement, every session focused on what’s already working – and how others can replicate it. Highlights included:

  • A powerful opening keynote from Tom Woolley outlining the five steps to unlocking the energy transition
  • A thought-provoking fireside chat on funding, delivery and community engagement
  • Lively Q&A panels, featuring voices from DESNZ, Baringa, Oxfordshire County Council and others
