FAQs
How do I find Energy Saver App in the app store?
If you search for Energy Saver App in either the App Store (for iPhones) or the Google Play Store (for Android), please use quotation marks ("") to ensure you find it - like this: "Energy Saver App"
Alternatively, click here to get direct links to the app stores.
How does the app work?
When you register, we’ll ask you for your smart meter number and to give permission to us to connect your app to your data. We’ll then ask you some basic questions about the tariff you’re on, the size of your home, and appliances you use so we can do some clever machine learning to work out how you are using energy.
Why am I asked for my card details?
We have two ways to connect your data to the app. This is to make sure your energy data belongs to you.
As an alternative option to using your in home display’s MAC ID number, you can now use a bank card to securely verify your identity. With this method you make a free test transaction with a debit or credit card registered to that address. Your card details are not stored on the app and you will not be charged for the transaction. You can then get started using the app.
Stripe (who provide the card check method), and Eliq (developers of the app), are compliant with Payment Card Industry standards (PCI compliance).
If you use the in home display method, you don’t have to enter your card details.
How will I save energy from the Energy Saver App?
We expect app users to save an average of 7% in energy and off their bills through being able to monitor energy usage and see which appliances use most energy. You can set a budget and track your performance against it. You can also see how you compare to similar sized homes, and find out if there are devices coming on when they shouldn’t be. We’ll also give you personalised tips that will help you save energy.
How is the smart meter data collected?
We use a company called n3rgy who use cloud technology to securely collect and store your smart meter data, regardless of the supplier.
What do I do if I don’t have a smart meter?
If you don’t currently have a smart meter installed, you can use this link to request one from the relevant energy supplier.
Will you sell or pass on my energy data?
No, never. Your data will only be used by our partners to provide the service and let you know of other schemes that will help you save energy. You can find out more in our privacy policy and you can withdraw your consent and leave the app at any time.
Why are you doing this?
Reducing energy usage, and using energy sources such as heat pumps and solar panels will save you money and reduce our CO2 emissions. This app will help us plan for the future where there’ll be increasing demands on the energy grid. If we develop a smart, flexible energy system with more renewable energy sources we won’t have to rely on fossil fuels to help balance between energy demand, and supply.
Can I get past data?
You can access up to 13 months of data (or less depending when you moved into your home).
How do I change address?
You will need to delete your existing account and then re-register with your updated address details. This will require you to connect the app with your smart meter linked
to your new address.
To delete your account, simply click on “account” and then select the “delete account” tab.
How do I remove a smart meter from the app?
- Log into/ open the app.
- Click on “account”.
- Select the “add/ remove digital meter” tab.
- You will be shown the smart meters connected with the option to “remove consent”. By clicking this, you will remove the connection of that smart meter to the app.
How are my savings calculated?
We use your half-hourly smart meter readings to simulate how your energy use would change with a solar and battery system. Your system size is estimated based on your house size, and we apply your current energy tariff to calculate your annual savings. We also compare this to the best available tariff to show you your maximum savings potential. Your savings will be updated after your home survey, once your system is accurately sized by one of our engineers.
