Oxfordshire FAQs
Who owns the solar panels and battery?
You own the solar panels and inverter outright. Metis owns the panels, invertor and battery which they will provide you with to maximise your energy savings.
What data do you collect and how often?
We monitor your smart meter readings, battery performance, and energy usage patterns every half hour to ensure that your system is working as efficiently as possible and save you as much money as we can.
Can I override your battery settings?
No, we own and manage your system as part of your optimisation fee. This covers ongoing maintenance, energy saving, and optimisation.
Do I have to switch to your suggested supplier/tariff?
No, it is up to you whether you want to switch, and who you want to switch to. We just suggest the best in the market based on your energy usage and battery system size to maximize your savings. Whatever tariff you chose, we will use the battery to maximise your savings, just be aware they may be lower than predicted on your proposal.
What exactly am I paying for?
You are paying the use of the solar system which will allow you to maximise your savings, expert battery management and optimisation, tariff monitoring, remote system adjustments, and ongoing support which are all designed to lower your energy bills.
How do I switch to your suggested best supplier/tariff?
Within the pack of documentation that we will send you once your solar installation is completed you will receive a step-by-step guide on how to set up your SEG tariff, and switch to the best tariff in the market based on your energy consumption
Can I purchase an extra battery/solar panels?
Yes. You would need to sign up for an additional battery at a cost of £xxpcm (total £xxpcm). We will be able to advise how much your benefits would increase with the additional battery.
It's not that sunny in the UK... how well do solar panels work?
Despite the common belief that the UK's weather isn't ideal for solar energy, solar panels are actually very effective here. Technology has progressed over the years and manufacturers have designed panels to work even on cloudy days and in low light.
What really matters is daylight, which we have plenty of for a large part of the year. This makes solar energy a viable and promising choice for your home.
How are solar panels installed?
Getting solar panels up on your house starts with our expert installer popping over to have a good look at your roof. They’ll check things like the roof's shape, how much sun it gets, and if there are any trees shading it.
Once we've got all the details, we’ll come up with the perfect solar panel setup just for your home.
On installation day, or a couple of days before, the team will set up scaffolding for safe roof access. Then, we'll attach the solar panels securely to their frames, making sure they're angled perfectly to catch the most sun.
Next, we wire up the panels to an inverter, which turns the solar energy into electricity you can use. Your smart meter means you can monitor energy coming from and going back into the grid through an app, and we’ll help you set that up too.
After everything’s hooked up, we’ll do a final check to make sure it's all ticking along nicely. We'll walk you through how everything works, hand over all the manuals and warranty info, and give you the lowdown on getting the most out of your new solar setup.
Finally, we'll remove the scaffolding. And that’s it! Most solar systems don’t need much looking after, but we’ll remotely check its performance and get in touch if anything needs looking into. The whole process is pretty quick, often done in a day or two, and you’ll have a neat, safe solar power system ready to save you money and help the planet.
Can solar panels charge my car?
Yes, even if your charger is not 'Solar Ready', you simply top up your battery with solar power and your battery then supplies the energy your car needs.
How long do solar panels and batteries typically last?
Solar Panels
Our solar panels are backed by a 15-year product warranty and a 25–30-year performance warranty. This ensures your investment continues to provide energy savings and environmental benefits well into the future.
Solar batteries
We offer a 10-year warranty with all our battery installs. Factors such as how regularly you use the battery will impact this. However, our team will be able to monitor your battery remotely, and we'll get in touch if anything needs an expert to come to a look.
What grants are available in the UK for solar?
Sadly, there are no nationwide grants for solar power available in England and Wales. However, in England, around 45 councils offer grants for people without a gas boiler via the Home Upgrade Grant. In Scotland, Home Energy Scotland is there to enhance house efficiency and install green energy.
If you receive specific benefits, your energy supplier might offer you an ECO4 grant to improve your home's efficiency. Regardless, everyone can gain from selling excess energy back to an energy supplier, a process known as the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG), and we're here to help you secure the best deal.
Details of grant schemes available in Oxfordshire to help improve your home’s energy efficiency can be found at www.oxfordshire.gov.uk/retrofit
What are the benefits of solar panels and battery storage?
Solar panels and battery storage can help you save money on your electricity bills, reduce your carbon footprint, and increase your energy independence. Solar panels convert sunlight into electricity, which can be used to power your home. Battery storage allows you to store excess solar energy for later use, such as at night or during a power outage.
How does the Metis Optimisation as a Service offer work?
Metis installs high-quality solar panels and a battery system at your home. Metis provides ongoing monitoring, maintenance, and optimisation of the solar & battery system to maximize your savings. You pay a fixed monthly fee for this service.
What is the minimum contract term?
The minimum contract term is 5 years. After the initial 5-year term, the contract automatically renews on an annual basis unless you choose to cancel.
What happens if I cancel the contract early?
If you cancel the contract within the initial 5-year term, you will be required to pay an amount equal to 12 months of service payments.
If less than 12 months remain in the initial term, you will be required to pay the remaining monthly service payments. The services will stop, and the battery system will be removed. If you cancel the contract after the initial 5-year term, you will be required to pay the remainder of the payments for the renewed contract year. The services will stop, and the battery system will be removed.
What happens after the 5 year contract term?
You can choose to have us remove and collect the Battery System, which will end this agreement. If you decide not to remove it, the agreement will continue automatically each year. During this time, you’ll still need to make the Service Payments by direct debit at the same rate and frequency, until either you or we decide to cancel it with at least one month's notice.
What happens if I sell my house?
If you sell your house, you will need to inform Metis. This will trigger a termination event, and you will be required to pay any remaining fees for the current contract year. The services will stop, and the battery system will be removed.
What data does Metis collect?
Metis collects data from your smart meter, battery, and inverter. This data is used to optimise the performance of your system and maximise your savings. You can withdraw your consent for data collection at any time, but this will result in the termination of the service.
